"The future challenges for the Basque Country, Euskadi, are to be faced on a global stage”

The Basque Government has approved the Internationalisation Framework Strategy 2020, with the aim of achieving sustainable growth and more human development for the Basque Country in coming years, as well as a budget of 105 million euros for the next three years.

The Lehendakari (President) Iñigo Urkullu, who presented the internationalisation plan together with the Minister for Economic Development and Competitiveness, Arantza Tapia, and the Secretary General for Foreign Action, Marian Elorza, stated that “the future challenges for the Basque Country, Euskadi, are to be faced on a global stage” and stressed the importance of having “our own recognized brand image in the world”.

The image for the new strategy will be “Basque Country”, the calling card for the Basque Country in “priority action” countries such as Germany, China, the USA and Mexico.

Marian Elorza stated that the foreign action plan over the next three years will be used to position the Basque Country as a global player and defend Basque interests worldwide.

The objectives and actions presented include the commitment to bring four international events to the Basque Country, create a network of alliances with at least eight “strategic” regions, the financing of 200 international projects and the development of the Global Basque Network, the network with the Basque community abroad.
